I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on
September 11, 1964 to Curtis Sr. and Ida Mae
Berryhill and I’m the youngest of five siblings, Carolyn
(decease), Curtis Jr., Joseph, and Joycelyn. I am the
beloved husband of Susan C. Berryhill and the father of
Anton, Jonathan, Amanda, Donald Jr. and Donyell.
I am the proud grandfather of Cayla, Keyon, Alasia,
Tray, Keywond, Ricee’ and Jonquil. The godfather of
Tarneisha Williams, Keshonda Corley, Jayleon
Williams, Imani Griffin, Marqueline Dejean, and
Jahzra Dunn.
I graduated from John Ehret Senior High School.
Upon completing I enlisted in the United States Army,
where I served as a supply clerk and chef
for ten (10) years and retired honorable discharge. After
leaving the Armed forces I began a career with the Orleans
Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office, when I served for five
(5) years and took an early retirement and began working as
a correctional sergeant at the Angola Sate Penitentiary. I
remained there for two (2) years and was inducted in the
New Orleans Police Academy, where I have served for the
last fifteen (15) years. My present position is a Detective in
the Child Abuse Unit.
I acknowledged my call to the Gospel Ministry in
October 1994 and I was licensed to preach on October 15,
1995, by Pastor John C. Raphael,
Jr. and I was ordained on April 3, 1998, under the
auspices of the Louisiana Freeman Missionary Baptist
General Association, Dr.
Benjamin Maxon, Jr., President.
I was elected as Interim Pastor of First Zion Baptist
Church on December 4, 2000. Since arriving at first
Zion the church has grown tremendously. On February 11,
2001, I was elected as the pastor by unanimous decision.
I started out at First Zion when times were hard and they
were down to thirty-five (35) members, but within years time
the membership grew to two hundred and fifty (250). We are
really proud to announce that the church is on the move.
Renovations have been made to the sanctuary, a new pastor’s
study, new church signs, exterior security lighting and
chandeliers in the church, flooring in restrooms, carpet, tile,
drum set, and two vans. I developed the #1 Zion Outreach
Ministry and incorporated, giving it federal tax identification
number. Initiated the food bank where we give food out to the
community twice a month. I purchased several properties in the
area and had them demolished. I
also started the #1 Zion Health Ministry and excise class,
where there is a certified nurse on staff they make sure that the
church and community stay health. I started the first ever Gert
Town Festival, and the first annual pastor need a
word week.
